BOCA GRANDE FAMILY SESSION
When families come together from different corners of the world, it always feels extra meaningful to press pause and capture it. Alexis and James were visiting Boca Grande for the holidays, traveling from Denver to spend time with James’s parents, who now live in Canada but have deep roots on Gasparilla Island. Years ago, they owned a home here, and even though it’s been sold, their love for the island has never faded.
This trip was especially special. It was the first time everyone had been photographed together as a family, and it had been seven years since Alexis and James had updated photos of just their immediate family. A Boca Grande family session felt like the perfect way to celebrate being together again.
We chose the lighthouse at Boca Grande Pass, one of my favorite sunset locations on the island. With its rock outcroppings, gorgeous views, and timeless charm, it’s a spot that never disappoints. The evening couldn’t have been better, warm fall air, no wind, and the kind of sunset light photographers dream about.
Because this area has changed a bit since the hurricanes, we started in a shaded walkway that framed the group beautifully. We captured a few portraits with the grandparents first, moments I know will be treasured, before shifting our focus to Alexis and James with their two girls. They wanted a mix of classic portraits and candid, playful moments, and this location gave us the best of both worlds. Check out some of their favorite photos below!

As the sun dipped lower, we walked, laughed, and let the girls play in the sand while golden light wrapped around them. We couldn’t skip photos with the lighthouse in the background, especially knowing how many memories James has of growing up on this very beach. From posing on the rocks to spontaneous giggles and sandy toes, the session felt relaxed and full of joy.
This Boca Grande family session was everything I love about photographing families here, meaningful connections, a beautiful setting, and moments that feel real. Evenings like this are a reminder of why photos matter, especially when distance and time make being together so rare.
