FORT MYERS ENGAGEMENT
Jaycob and Sydney met four years ago in college in Michigan and have been inseparable ever since. After graduation, life took them to opposite coasts of Florida. Sydney moved to the west coast with her brothers and Jaycob moved to the east coast for work. But distance couldn’t keep them apart. Recently, Jaycob made the move across the state because he knew he wanted to build a future with her, and what better way to start than with a surprise proposal at one of their favorite beaches in Fort Myers?
A couple of weeks before the big day, Jaycob scouted a quiet fishing pier at Lovers Key State Park, tucked away from the main beach crowds. He decided it was the perfect spot to pop the question. On proposal day, he and Sydney enjoyed a late lunch, though he admits it was hard to relax. He kept checking his watch as the waiter took their time with their food and bill, anxious to stay on schedule.
Once they finally arrived at Lovers Key, Jaycob told Sydney he wanted to show her the new pier he’d discovered. Meanwhile, Mike and I were already in position. Mike was on a nearby bridge with a 500mm lens, and I was sitting on a beach blanket near the path to the pier trying to blend in. Just before they arrived, three locals started heading towards the pier, and I quickly explained what was about to happen. They smiled, stepped aside, and became my perfect cover.
They walked along the pier, looking over the edge at fish swimming below the low tide. Jaycob finally turned toward Sydney and dropped to one knee. Her reaction was all smiles as she said YES!

Afterward, Sydney shared that Jaycob had been nervous all day and her brothers had been acting “strangely.” What she didn’t know was that they were all part of the surprise, and waiting just down the beach with another secret. When we walked over to the Gulf side for more photos, Sydney was stunned again to see not just her brothers but also her best friends who had flown in just for the occasion!
They shared hugs and laughter, celebrated with champagne, and even got photobombed by a flock of curious seagulls. As the sun began to set, we captured their first portraits as an engaged couple. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable Fort Myers engagement at Lovers Key.
