Consider the photography style that resonates with you. Photographers have varied approaches, from classic and timeless to candid and artistic. Some photographers focus on light and airy, moody, adventure, natural light, dramatic or editorial. Reviewing portfolios is a great way to see if their style matches the vision you have for your day.

2. Research and Read Reviews

A photographer’s portfolio showcases their skills, but reviews provide insight into the client experience. Look for photographers with positive feedback about their professionalism, quality, and ease to work with. Looking at reviews on popular sites like Google, Wedding Wire, The Knot, etc, will give you an idea of other people’s experiences are with the photographer. 3. Meet in Person

Meeting your photographer helps build trust and allows you to communicate your expectations. During your meeting, discuss their experience with venues and their approach to capturing moments that matter most to you. Make sure your personalities are complimentary because your photographer will be with you all day and you want to spend your wedding day with someone you are comfortable around.

4. Consider Packages and Pricing

Photographers may offer a variety of packages. Some photographers have predetermined packages while others (like myself) offer custom packages based on your desires. Determine if the coverage time, engagement session options, and album choices align with your needs. It’s also worth noting what’s included in the packages, such as second photographers and extra hours.

5. Ask About Editing and Delivery

Understanding the editing style and timeline for delivery can help set realistic expectations. Some photographers offer sneak peeks (a handful of photos from your day) shortly after the wedding, while others focus on perfecting every detail before delivering your final gallery. Make sure you know how long it will take until you receive the images in your gallery, as some photographers take weeks while others may take several months. Also make sure you understand how you will get your photos. Whether they will be in an online gallery to download, print and share or on a USB drive or in an album.

6. Prioritize Connection and Comfort

Ultimately, you want a photographer who feels like a natural fit. Your comfort with them will reflect in your photos, so select someone who makes you feel at ease and shares your enthusiasm for capturing your special day.
