SURPRISE ENGAGEMENT on VENICE BEACH

When Keenan called me from California, I could hear the excitement in his voice. His girlfriend, Benna, had just returned from an international work trip and was spending a quiet weekend in Venice, Florida with her parents. Keenan only had two days to create a moment she’d never forget. So, we got to work planning a perfect surprise engagement on Venice Beach.

Benna’s family lives just a short walk from the water, and sunset strolls are part of their routine. So we decided to keep it simple, natural, and personal. After dinner, they’d take a casual walk on the beach where Keenan would propose at just the right moment. With a bouquet of fresh flowers, chilled champagne, and the golden Florida sunset behind them, everything was set.

Despite a strong evening breeze, the plan went off beautifully. I waited with my camera, disguised as a beachgoer enjoying the view, while they strolled past. Just as they turned around to head back, Keenan paused, turned toward her, and dropped to one knee. Her reaction was everything. Surprised, tearful, and full of joy. And of course, she said “YES.”

Their families joined shortly after as we celebrated with hugs, toasts, and plenty of happy tears. Even the neighboring condo guests joined in, cheering from their balconies as we wrapped up a champagne-filled sunset photo session.

Keenan shared later that their love story began on a basketball court, and that their mutual passion for sports, medicine, and each other makes them a perfect match.
